Start with the layout
Some slots use a familiar row of reels; others present a larger grid. The layout determines where symbols can appear, but it does not by itself explain which combinations count. Open the rules and identify whether the game uses paylines, ways to win or groups of matching symbols. Do not carry the rules from one title into another simply because both show five reels.

Follow one completed result
Watch what the screen highlights after a spin. A highlighted line may show a qualifying combination, while another game may remove symbols and drop replacements into the grid. Wilds and scatters have different jobs

Keep the stake visible
Before repeating a spin, locate the total stake and the balance being used. Decorative coin values can be less useful than the actual amount charged for the action.
